Went to see the amazing and now ubiquitous Pheobe Waller-Bridge last night doing her one-woman play, Fleabag, at the Wyndham’s theatre in London’s West End. It’s the original play from 2013, directed by Vicky Jones, that spawned the massively successful television series of the same name.

To Nicholas Hytner’s strong new  Bridge Theatre on the bank of the Thames, with the great Tower Bridge magnificently rising above it, to see Christopher Hampton’s new play, A German Life. It’s a one-woman show starring the 84 year-old Maggie Smith, and what a tour de force it is

While in Minneapolis I went to see Apollo 11 with Nick, Guy and Dom Beken. It’s a new archive-only documentary produced and directed by Todd Douglas Miller. It includes 70mm film that has been previously unreleased and doesn’t have narration or interviews. Being an Apollo kid, I was in tears through a lot of it.

While in San Francisco on a rare night off, Guy Pratt and I popped in to see a new comedy play at the wonderful San Francisco Playhouse, a kind of theatre club. It was called Yoga Play and is written by Dipika Guha and directed by Bill English.

Two books have swept me away while on the NMSOS US tour. The first was John Keegan’s The American Civil War: A Military History. The second book was one I wanted to read for a long time but never seemed to have the space.  So in Denver I picked up a new translation by Oliver Ready for Penguin Classics of Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment.
